All teachers of the York Catholic District School Board are members of the OECD. This means that the central body of each union negotiates with the province and negotiates its local units with each school authority. Different aspects of a collective agreement are negotiated at each level. The collective agreements of YCDSB`s three union partners expired on August 31, 2019. The Board of Directors wishes to assure parents, students and our municipalities that every effort will be made to ensure that all elementary and secondary schools, daycares, pre- and post-school programs, as well as nutrition/breakfast programs, continue as long as it is safe. School bus transportation for eligible students also continues. On 8 April 2020, the OECD announced that its members had ratified the agreement on the essential conditions for a new treaty. The OECD and provincial representatives are currently at the negotiating table. If no provisional agreement can be reached today, a one-day strike will take place tomorrow, Friday, February 21: CUPE Local 1571 has indicated that it will hold a ratification vote for its members on November 23, 2019. The YCDSB Board of Directors will submit the provisional agreement for ratification at its Board meeting on November 26, 2019.

The York Catholic District School Board is very pleased to learn that the provincial and CUPE bargaining teams have negotiated a new collective agreement. As a result, CUPE will NOT strike tomorrow, Monday, October 7, 2019. All YCDSB teachers, primary and secondary school teachers, are members of the OECD. As a result of provincial negotiations, CUPE YCDSB has indicated that its members will be in a legal strike position as of Monday, September 30, 2019. In the event that, by 30 September 30, CUPE members will take legal action in the form of work to regulate sanctions. On October 6, CUPE and the province announced that they had reached a new collective agreement. This provisional agreement is currently being ratified by CUPE members. Today, the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association (OCDETA) announced that no preliminary agreement has been reached with the province and that a lawsuit against the work will begin on Monday, January 13, 2020. The York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB) and CUPE Local 2331 have reached a preliminary agreement. In the absence of a preliminary agreement, a one-day strike will take place on Thursday, March 5: as a Catholic school authority, YCDSB respects collective bargaining and hopes that a freely negotiated agreement will be reached by Sunday. Although we are not involved in central negotiations, we are confident that the parties concerned would work hard to reach an agreement.
